My budget starts/end on the 20th of each month.  So, below is a recap of December’s budget and a breakdown of the vacation fund deposit.

Notes:

  • Another mild weather month so the utility bill was very low this month.
  • I went over the car gas/maintenance budget due to an oil/filter change.
  • School expenses included about $40 for a project.
  • Both car gas/maintenance and yearly misc are deposited into separate accounts and excluded from the vacation fund.

Vacation Fund Deposit ($213.60)

  • $3.75 – debit card cash rewards
  • $20.00 – rolled coins
  • $98.64 – savings on December budget
  • $1.94 – interest from a close savings account
  • $89.27 – unexpected pay raise (will include in January budget)

Total Vacation Fund - $339.50

2012 Goals

This year I thought it would be fun to post my goals for 2012 and then provide quarterly update on my progress.  So…here are my goals for 2012.

Financial

  • Find $3,000 for our vacation fund.
  • Increase 401K contributions to 12%.
  • Contribute $6,200 to the my son’s education fund .
  • Pay off my student loan (currently $7,300).
  • Keep non-budgeted spending to less than $3,000.
  • Contribute $10,000 to my emergency fund.
Parenting
  • Play tennis, golf, bike, or hike with my son at least once a week.
  • Have movie night each week.
  • Take my son to Gettysburg, PA.
  • Consistently give a weekly allowance and encourage giving and saving.

Personal

Home Improvement Projects

  • Install programmable thermostat.
  • Frame bathroom mirrors.
  • Repurpose dresser into TV cabinet.
  • New flooring (1/2 of the house).
  • Replace broken doorbell.

Easy enough, huh?  What are your goals for 2012?

Again, only a 2 pound weight loss this month.  But, my goal through the holidays is simply to maintain and continue to exercise 4-5 times each week.
